• How to get texture into your art.

Blog Post

Just another update on things. I thought I had updated not so long ago but it seems like it was last August! I have still been working on the fluid acrylic paintings with resin. I have been doing a series of waves which I enjoy and which have actually been selling quite well so once again the textured paintings have been put on the back burner!

One of the wave paintings that I have sold recently.

As my son is now in school full time I do have a bit more time to paint and I think my sales have reflected this. I have found a few more local exhibitions to take part in and last weekend I did Open Studios for the 3rd or 4th year. I had some lovely visitors and feedback so it’s nice to actually get to speak to people who are interested in your art.

The time lapse video of the textured painting never got finished! In fact the half finished painting is still in my studio! I guess I will get to it at some point.

In April this year I found it necessary to increase my prices, for a few reasons. Firstly there are a number of art fairs that I want to take part in but it isn’t feasible to do them unless your work is at a particular price point, otherwise it would not be possible to make any money after you take account of the price of the stand. Another reason was a basic supply and demand one – I was selling paintings and not having time to complete new ones which is a great position to be in!

I still think my prices are very reasonable and want to keep the cost affordable (e.g. £250 for a 60 x 60cm) and some people are still telling me they are too cheap, but it is a tricky thing to actually get your pricing right I find and does also depend on where you exhibit.

I have also started to make a few frames of my own after watching some YouTube videos (obviously!) and they are coming out quite nicely I think. But frames are always contentious because something one person likes is something someone else doesn’t! So I have made them easily removable from the paintings that I have put them on.

Anyway, that is a quick summary of what is happening with me!

Best wishes and thanks for reading
