• How to get texture into your art.

Just a Post About Stuff :-)

I haven’t posted on here for a while so I thought I would just do a bit of a blog post about why not and to confirm I haven’t completely forgotten and neglected this site!

I feel like I haven’t had so much time to do my art recently. I have 2 1/2 days when my son is at nursery but the half day pretty much goes with doing an exercise class and catching up with some other work I have going on. The other 2 days plus some time at the weekend are spent doing painting work, preparing paintings for exhibitions and the like and also building and updating websites.

I think I am like most artists in that I constantly have ideas about paintings I want to do. I veer between different styles of painting – mostly 2 styles which are the textured paintings that I talk about on here and the fluid acrylic paintings which I have also been doing for about 10 years, but which now also seem to be very popular with anyone wanting to play with paint and experiment.

Because I have also discovered resin in the last few years I have done more of the fluid acrylic paintings with a resin coating on which can look amazing (as with any art there are hits and misses with these paintings as they don’t always go to plan!).

In fact I have an exhibition next week where I have one heavily textured painting and 3 fluid acrylic and resin paintings, so I’ll have to see if any of those sell!

But in the back of my mind I always want to come back to the textured paintings. In fact I am working on one right now which I am using my camcorder to record in time lapse format. That is one reason I bought that camcorder – I searched for ages to find one with that feature and really struggled. One reason I couldn’t find many was because they don’t all advertise the fact that they have it, so that doesn’t really help. I thought it would be a good way to record making a painting that might take a long time. Whether it actually works out OK I will find out in due course!

So, anyway, my son starts school in September. This means that I will have 5 days a week to work (up til 3pm anyway), so I am hoping I might be able to get more painting work done. I think it is likely that the time lapse video of the textured painting won’t be ready until a few weeks into September as I plan to put a lot of coats of paint into the painting which I think always makes a painting better.

I also have a website about the fluid art which is here if anyone is interested. It does earn me a little bit of income from the commission I receive from any products sold on there. It seemed like there were a lot of people wondering what products to buy and where to get them. The thing is I have always found Amazon great for art products so I can genuinely show the products that I use.

So that’s what is going on at the moment. I will try and post more stuff that I think people might be interested in as it seems like the subscription list grows each month – so thanks to everyone who subscribes. I didn’t really know if people would be interested when I set up this site but I was so excited about the thick texture I had learnt about that I wanted to share that with other people so that is why this site exists šŸ™‚
